Eve Air’s Flying Taxi Survived a Wind Tunnel

Eve Air Mobility, a rising star in the tech start-up sky, is ushering in a world where flying cars don’t just belong to the reel life of movies, but to our very real tomorrow. The company recently celebrated an engineering milestone – successfully concluding wind tunnel tests on a 1/3 scale model of its 8-propeller electric vertical take-off and landing vehicle (eVTOL). These tests serve to monitor and understand the airflow over the vehicle and its components, bringing the eVTOL a step closer to taking flight.

Eve’s ambitions are set to takeoff in 2026 when their passenger vehicle, designed for urban air mobility missions, is expected to enter service. It’s designed to be 100% electric, starting with a piloted model before transitioning to autonomous operations, boasting a range of 60 miles.

This audacious plan is not without its share of heavyweight backing. The start-up has secured a significant $15 million investment from United Airlines, joining the ranks of other airlines investing in futuristic “air taxi” solutions. Eve’s eVTOL has already attracted approximately 2,800 orders, scheduled to begin delivery in three years, heralding a dreamy future that just might become reality!
